Eyeshadow tips

There are so many different types of eye shadows: pressed powder, loose shimmer balls, cream eye shadow, silk and gel shadows and etc. The main point of eye shadow is to make your eyes stand out.  Well, for the beginning I should say: no matter what kind of makeup you’re going for, the secret of successful eye shadow application is blending.

The most common type of eye shadow is powder shadows. They are available in every imaginable color and finishes from matte to glittery. Powder is long-lasting and what is more colors blend great together. Try to apply it with natural brush. Cream eye shadow is very easy to spread over the eyelid and gives a subtle, natural finish. Creamy eye shadows are usually applied with finger or synthetic brush. Loose shimmer balls have a more intense look because of stronger color pigments or shimmer. It requires more experience due to its messy consistence. Creamy powder is great for an excellent eye base. Eye crayons come in many colors and are easy to use. Never mind which eye shadows you’re planning to use dab a little foundation or concealer over the eyelid and brush it with a little translucent powder.

Most of the time it’s best to use no more than two or three tones. Color should be chosen considering the color of your eyes.  If you want to cast a spell using your eye color chose a palette of related colors. It will intensify eye color. To make eyes really stand out try using dramatic color contrast. For the blue eyes use peachy or golden brown hues, or a shade of gray that’s lighter than your eyes. Green eyes “pops” with earthy tones like copper or auburn, or brings out with red or orange. Brown eyes are complemented with mossy green. Hazel eyes flatters with deep sapphire or violet. Also both dark and light brown eyes can be lined with blue tints. Test colors on your hand before you apply it. Some colors look different in the palette.

For a truly dramatic look you need to deal with more than two shades. Use a lighter shade above the whole eye.  Light-reflecting or shimmery eye shadows help to open up the eyes and make them look brighter. Dotted it in the inner corner of the eye and swept up to the browbone. Use a little highlight color under the eyebrow. Shimmery textures make tired eyes look more awake. To create a deep look use mate colors. Don’t avoid mixing textures. Before you line the lid with a pencil moisturize the area first so it will smudge naturally. If you’re willing to create a subtle look pick a cream shadow. It will melt onto your skin. The final helpful tip: if you need to erase shadow mistakes dip a cotton swab in concealer then wipe it over the skin. It will pick up shadow without ruining your makeup.

In general there are no definite rules for makeup, only guidelines and techniques. You should take it as a diversion. There are various tips and tricks that you can find out. Try to use everything until you work out what suit you the best.
